ERGATHON 2025

Rowing can be a powerful and positive influence in a young person’s life. Rose City is proud of the work we do to help our young athletes become strong, confident people. Our annual Ergathon fundraiser is critical to the ongoing operation of our program. We appreciate the tremendous support we receive from our community. Help us get each of our crews across the finish line! Donate using the button below!

Rowing requires the strength-bursts of a sprinter, the endurance of a cross-country runner, the mind-set of a bulldog, the finesse of a fencer, and most of all, unwavering teamwork. We have no “superstars” in our boats, only disciplined and determined rowers pulling together for victory, or, almost as satisfying, for the right to say, “I left it in the boat, I have nothing more to give.”

We are very proud of our team and humbled by the energy and goodwill that our community puts into it. Every day our kids get to practice on the beautiful Willamette River, as it runs through the heart of the city. They can unplug from the stress of school and unplug from their phones. Our coaches shepherd and challenge our young athletes to work together, to swing as one and meet challenges as a unit. Every day our athletes look forward to learning about themselves, sometimes in the rain and wind, but always with enthusiasm and grit. When the boat comes together the feeling is so exciting – like a rocket launching – and the thrill of winning a race is always unforgettable. It is wonderful to be a part of a team that works and grows together.

Ergathon: How It Works

Our specific rules for the Ergathon event change every year, but it is a team competition on the rowing machines. This is where the athletes "earn" all the sponsorships they have received. Athletes will be assigned to one of six teams and then they "travel" the world on the erg, playing by rules conjured up by the staff. It is a challenging, but fun day. The winning team earns the coveted Ergathon trophy that is displayed in the Clubhouse trophy case. This is one way the kids can share their enthusiasm with their family and friends.

This year the team is raising money for oars, because most of the oars we have are now over twenty years old. With over 120 athletes on the team, that’s a lot of oars!

Will you help us keep our program thriving? RCRC is a charitable, non-profit organization and any contribution you make is tax deductible. Together we can maintain a quality program that is safe and healthy for our youth in the Portland area.
