Give rowing a try!
Rowing is great for kids! There’s nothing like getting out on our beautiful Willamette River in a boat full of your friends. At Rose City we know how important it is for kids to unplug and get outside and play. Rowing helps them learn how to become athletic and adventuresome. At the same time kids learn the importance of teamwork and discipline. Our program caters to kids of all athletic backgrounds. It’s about learning, improving and enjoying the ride. Nothing beats the thrill of a racing shell skimming quickly over the water. Why not try a sport you can enjoy for a lifetime?
At Rose City we have four distinct seasons and we take on new beginners at the start of each season. No experience is required! In fact, virtually none of our beginners have ever seen rowing up close… so everyone is starting something brand new.
Our Winter program will begin December 1st. We will be accepting brand new rowers with no previous experience. See below!
Winter workouts at Rose City
Our Winter Session runs for three months, until it is once again hospitable out on the river. Over the course of December, January and February the team will get in great shape, training on rowing machines and bikes, lifting weights and practicing all manner of body circuits. The athletes will learn about fitness training, as well as other life skills, like yoga and injury prevention.
Below you will find descriptions of the various sessions we will be offering.

Join Our Community!
Rose City is proud to serve the greater Portland area. Our athletes attend over 35 area high and middle schools and come from as far away as Vancouver, West Lynn and even Eugene! Our aim is to be a club where people from any background can come and feel welcomed and valued as a member of the team. Every day we strive to make our environment inclusive and comfortable.

Improve Yourself!
No athletic experience is necessary- we are simply looking for kids who love being on the water, working with teammates towards common goals, and improving themselves! Rowing is a low-impact, non-contact sport that people can do their entire lives. It is common to see 70-year-olds racing at regattas! Rowing is an endurance sport and top rowers are famously some of the fittest athletes on earth. It is immensely satisfying to watch our young participants develop the physical, emotional and mental skills to perform at a high level. No one who joins our team has ever rowed before… but many leave our doors with college scholarships as a result of their dedication and enthusiasm.

Compete!
Rose City is a nationally competitive program. Not everyone on our team chooses to race, but those who do get exposed to many valuable life lessons- and exciting experiences! RCRC races regularly in the northwest region, but we also travel to places like Boston, San Diego and even Canada!
RCRC can be the first stop in a long and fruitful competitive rowing career for those athletes who choose to chase that dream. We work hard, race hard and love to compete.
